Preserving the Past through Education

Education is a huge part of what we do as living historians, not only is it our purpose, it is our passion. On this page you will find information about how our company approaches educational programing and how to schedule our company's visit to your school or program.

Educational Programing

School Program:

In order to provide the best possible experience to students and the public, our company employs a station formatted approach to instruction, with students visiting separate stations in a rotation. Typically, we provide five to six stations; however, we are flexible in our approach as to meet the needs of the school we are visiting.

Living History Program:

This program is geared towards the general public is intended to create an environment where the public has the opportunity to view a field encampment that reflects either life in winter quarters or on campaign in the field. Stations are generally not employed in this setting, though displays may be staged for the purposes of showing off period gear and equipment.

Shelter Display
"A Place of Rest"

One of the key and very telling stations or areas of focus we speak on is shelter, while exploring how both armies slept in the field on campaign.

Learning OutcomeStudents will learn about the various shelters used by each army in the field, how they were carried on the march, and how they were put up and utilized

Uniforms
"Uniforms fit for Soldering"

Another key focus of our educational programming focuses on the uniforms of each army. There is much more to uniformity in the war, with variations by army and theatre in both the U.S. Army and the C.S. Army.

Learning Outcome: Students will learn about the uniforms used by each army, the materials they were often made of, and learn how they differed in their production. Further, students will learn about designation by color of uniform trim denoting branch of service.

Period Weapons
"Armaments of War"

The most popular of portion of the educational program put on by our company is that of the weapons presentation, which features a few variations of the long arms employed within the war, with several of these being original pieces.

Learning Outcome: Students will learn about the various weapons soldiers carried on them in the war. Students will be able to view these items as part of a large display and will be given a presentation regarding the items they are viewing.
